SELECTION GUIDE of NANCAR® NBR

Nitrile rubber (NBR) is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene.  It is highly recommended when oil resistance is required for the proper functioning of rubber parts.

Nancar NBR is highly recommended for use in the following applications:

1. Industrial and automotive goods

2. Belting and fuel hose

3. Injection molded goods

4. Footwear

5. Spinning cot and apron

6. Insulation and sponge-type sporting goods

7. Rice roller

8. Adhesives

9. etc.

There are a variety of grades currently available.  Apart from regular grades, Nantex has, over the years, developed other faster curing grades that offer:

1.     Faster curing

2.     Low mold fouling

3.     Improved processability

4.     Superier resilience properties

There are also specialty grades such as the carboxylated nitrile, the nitrile-PVC polyblend, nitrile-PVC-DOP polyblend, and DOP-plasticized grade.

Nancar nitrile rubbers are available in a wide variety of acrylonitrile contents (ACN content) and mooney viscosities (MV) for optimum performance in a variety of conditions. The ACN content and MV are general criteria for grade selection.  Some special requirements may also be in order.

A.  ACN - CONTENT

Acrylonitrile content is the main indicator of oil and fuel resistance in nitrile rubber.  As it increases, fuel and oil resistance, represented by volume change in this graph, is improved.  On the other hand, as acrylonitrile content is lowered, low temperature resistance is improved.

B. MOONEY VISCOSITY

The type of mixing and molding equipment used determines to an extent the level of mooney viscosity that will be most suitable.

The versatile general purpose grades with mooney viscosities from 45 to 60 can be processed either by banbury, kneader or open mill using compression, transfer, extrusion or injection.  To provide you with an idea on the suitable mooney viscosities for particular mixing and molding equipment, the following chart should prove helpful.

C. Special requirements

Your needs may require that your product has high abrasion resistance.  In this case, our Nancar has carboxylated grades may be suitable to meet your needs.  When improved ozone resistance is required, Nancar has NBR/PVC polyblend grades to meet this specific need.  On the other hand, When low durometer is what is required, Nantex has an offering for a DOP-plasticized grade.
